Hello, hello :) Welcome to this month's My Favorite Things Creative Challenge.
"Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we've been asked to Frame It! Be sure to check the MFT Blog for a list of all the designers who have put their MFT stamps and/or Die-namics dies to work to create a framed piece of art for you."
I created a framed scrapbook layout for my project today. My husband ran his first marathon this year, and I wanted to commemorate it with a special gift for Father's Day. I created a 12"x12" scrapbook page and put it in a shadow box. I was able to include the fabulous medal he received for finishing. Here it is.

I love how this turned out and can't wait to give it to him next Sunday! I really don't think he looks at my blog too often, so I feel pretty safe posting it ;) This layout is full of Die-namics! I will start in the top left corner and work my way around the layout. I used a sentiment from the Girly Graphic Tee stamp set for this great tag.
The sentiment was stamped on an oval cut using the Oval STAX set 2 Die-namics. I mounted the oval with a foam booster on a tag cut with the newly released Traditional Tags STAX Die-namics. To create the matted tag, I cut two of the same size tags and trimmed the patterned paper tag a bit all around. The numbers were cut using the By the Numbers Die-namics and for the decimal point I used the smallest star from the Star STAX Die-namics. The numbers were also mounted on foam tape. I finished the tag off with a pewter ribbon slide and a bit of ribbon. I mounted the tag with foam tape on top of three flags cut with the Fishtail Flags STAX Die-namics. The flags were also mounted on the layout with foam tape. I loved that I could make this layout as dimensional as I wanted because it was going in a shadow box! Here is a look at the layout from the right top corner.
LOVE the new Star STAX Die-namics!! I used the two middle sizes here. You can also get a better idea of the dimension here. Take a peek at the tag on the left side. The large photo is also mounted on a double thickness of thick foam tape bringing it up 1/4" off the page :) I had to accomodate that beautiful satin ribbon for the medal. I used the index tab from the Mini Tabs Foursome to record my husband's time. It was unseasonably hot on Marathon Monday in Boston this year (temps climbed into the 90s). Coupling the heat with a hip injury a couple weeks prior to the Marathon and my dear husband was off his usual pace :( He was determined to finish, and I was so incredibly thankful that he was not injured further or was taken out of the race by the heat. Here is a detail shot of the Skyline Border and Vanity License Plate at the bottom of the layout.
I used the Vanity License Plate Stamp Set & Die-namics combo to create this fitting license plate, complete with safety pins in honor of a race bib :) I thought the Skyline Border Die-namics would create an appropriate accent for the layout, as the race ends in downtown Boston. I lined up some Chevron Stripes under that as a striking backdrop for the prized medal :) Obviously my color scheme for this layout came from the medal/ribbon. The 4" x 6" photo needed a little jazzing up so I added a few flags to the left side of it.
The larger flag is from the Fishtail Flags STAX and the smaller flags are from the First Place Award Ribbon Die-namics set. Here are a couple more shots of the entire layout. The first one shows the dimension - nearly every element is on foam tape or boosters. The second photo is the completed layout before I put it in the shadow box.
Of course since this is a gift, I had to make a coordinating card to go along with it!

I used lots of the same supplies - Vanity License Plate Stamp Set & Die-namics, Star STAX Die-namics, Fishtail Flags STAX Die-namics, and Chevron Stripes Die-namics. I added metal studs to mimic the rivets which might be used to secure a license plate. The cardstock I used is Black Licorice, Red Hot, & Sweet Tooth from MFT, blue Bazzill, and sunny yellow from CTMH. The map paper is also from CTMH (Cruisin'). Here is another look.
Here are the Die-namics I used for this project. All TEN of them!!
I can't wait to give this to my husband - I think he is going to LOVE it!! Stop by Kim's blog to see all the designers who are going to wow you with their framed creations today. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
