Twinkle, Twinkle

I have been wanting to use this Plain Jane from Verve (Little Star) since I got it & finally had the right opportunity.  The layout is Sankari's Viva la Verve! sketch for the last week of March.  I made a square card & was inspired by this card by Amy Sheffer.  I thought of a crib mobile when I first saw it & that was the look I was going for :)

The chipboard stars are covered with yellow glitter from Martha Stewart, and I also added some glitter to the stars around the sentiment.  The "dreams" embellishment is actually a sticker that coordinated with the paper I used.  Thanks for stopping by today :)

Thanks for Caring

I love to be inspired by other stampers, which is one reason why I love the CASE Study challenge blog.  This month has been no exception with Julee Tilman as the muse.  With that being said, I sometimes struggle with my "inspired" cards because I try to be too inspired - make any sense?  Not this time.  I actually wrote a few things down about the inspiration card (you can see the card here) that I was drawn to & didn't look at the inspiration again until I was done!  What I wrote down on the sketch I used (Card Patterns #108) was, "inked dry embossing (I am sure there is a proper term); colors - teal, chocolate, ivory; layered die cuts; curled corner".  If you are still with me, here is what I came up with.

I have to say, I love it!!!  I usually struggle with this style of card, but not last night :)  Here's another shot from a different angle.

The text background is a CTMH stamp, "Universal Backgrounds".  The sentiment is from Verve's "Thankful Hearts".  Only one tiny piece of patterned paper was cut in the making of this card- the label four directly behind the sentiment is a print from the "Bliss" collection (CTMH).  Thank you for stopping by my blog & have a super evening :)

Blessings & Mojo Monday #184

It's time for a new installment of Mojo Monday, and since it is the last week of the month you get to choose round or square for this fabulous sketch by Teresa Kline.  This was a very fun sketch to work with because there are so many possibilites in the way of borders, ribbons, sentiment placement, etc.   I even replaced the little flag with a stamped flourish.  Have fun with it :)  Here's my card using the stamp sets "Blessings" & "Amazing Wishes" from Verve & a couple different paper collections from CTMH.

The colors for my card are Sweet Leaf, Crystal Blue, Colonial White, & Chocolate.  I embossed the flowers from "Amazing Wishes" & layered three large & one small flower with foam tape, all topped off with a flat back pearl from CTMH.  The bottom border is a Tim Holtz die adorned with more of those pearls.  The trims are from CTMH, & the card was finished off with some machine stitching.  Head on over to the Mojo Monday blog to check out what the rest of the Mojo Makers have to share with you.  Remember to link up your card there, too :)  And if you are in the mood to see a circle card, here's one I posted earlier today :)  Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Hippo Birthday with Heart 2 Heart

It is Monday & that brings a new Heart 2 Heart challenge for the week.  This week it is a fun sketch.  Now it is meant to be a circle card, but you could also put this circular element as the focal point on a rectangle or sqaure card - have fun with it :)  I chose to keep it a circle for this cute little birthday card.  I rather like the color combination, too - Cotton Candy, Juniper, White Daisy, & Kraft.

Isn't this hippo the cutest :)  I added some tiny hearts from the Love Ya! stamp set to dress up that cute smile, Juniper brads on the horns, a flower on her bum, a waxy flax tail, & some bling on her toe nails!  I saw someone use the individual pom poms from the Cotton Candy ribbon for embellishing - great idea!  I don't remember who it was :(  I think it was recently & she used them for flower centers, step forward if it was you!!

My youngest is turning 2 today!!!  I can't believe how fast the past 2 years have gone, it seems like just yesterday Isabel was born.  Now she is a dare devil toddler following her big brothers around!  I am sure she will love this card, & then I will be promptly removing it from her grasp to save for the scrapbook!!  My oldest son's birthday was Friday (you can see his card here), so my 3 year old (Nathan) was feeling a bit left out!  What can you do?  I guess he will get used to it.  My 3 sisters' all had birthdays in April & I was August, so I can sympathize!  Nathan was born the day before my birthday, so I told him we will be partying together in August :)
Be sure to check out what the rest of the Design Team has cooked up for you today.  Our March Guest DT, Mary Gunn, is joining us today - be sure to leave her some love!  Have fun with this sketch & don't forget to link up your creation at the Heart 2 Heart blog.  Thanks for stopping in today - I will be back in a few with the Mojo Monday sketch for this week :)

Sarah's Birthday Sketch Replay

Happy Sunday!!  It has been so bright & sunny here the past few days, but not too warm.  We are getting there though :)  I can't wait for warmer weather & getting the kids out more to burn off some energy.  Last week I was in a blog hop to celebrate Sarah Bigelow's birthday (you can check out that post here), and I decided to re-visit the sketch we all used to make a birthday card for my nephew who will be turning 10 soon!  Yikes, time flies.
I kept this one pretty simple, as he is a boy & acting more mature nowadays :)  There is still time left for you to play along with this sketch - you have until midnight Atlantic time on April 2nd.  Just create a card based on Sarah's sketch & link it up here.  She is giving away some fantastic Verve goodness, which you can see here.  See you back here tomorrow for a new Mojo Monday sketch & Heart 2 Heart challenge!  Thanks for visiting my blog :)

Out of this World Birthday

Today was my oldest son's 6th birthday!  After school Noah & I played outside, built some legos, had a pancake dinner with the family (his choice), & watched a bit of Scooby-Doo.  Then the celebration began, ice cream pie (his choice again) & a few presents.  His big present was a Lego motorized train set, an older model that his cousins have but unfortunately is not available anymore.  Mommy scoured ebay & eventually was the winning bidder on a slightly used set :)  Here is the card I gave him & inside was a note with a clue to begin a treasure hunt to find his gift (which he was totally into!).
The first clue led him to the shower, next to the entry way, & finally his gift awaited him in the utility room.  He was over the moon excited when he opened it!  To quote, "This is the best birthday ever.  I never in a million years thought you would ever get this for me!"  (insert scream).  It was wonderful to see him so excited!  He then proceeded to grill me about where I got it!  Big hugs & lots of flattery ensued!!!!  He actually had tears in his eyes as he started to put it together.  Can you imagine being so happy over a toy?  Oh, wait I think I cried when I got my Grand Calibur - lol!

Anyways, enough rambling from me - on to the deets.  The images are from a Squigglefly digital set, "Space Adventures" designed by Nina Bracket.  Love it!!  I printed the images & colored with Copics.  My shading looks a lot better in person (no, really - but I am still learning!).  The card layout is from the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge (SSSC109).  This is my first time playing along, and this week's was a great sketch.  I am also entering this at Squigglefly Challenge #90 to use buttons.  I have 3 clear buttons, which are adorned with silver Stickles as the "thread".  There is also silver Stickles around the sentiment & on the rocket ship.  The interior of the card has a sweet freebie digital train image which I left blank for Noah to color.  He is such a typical boy - space ships, trains, and legos - oh my!!  Well, I have to go prepare for the Verve release party tonight & then some shopping - woo hoo!!!  You can check out the thread here, but beware it moves very fast!!  Have a wonderful evening & thanks for stopping in!

Easter Blessings

I love the latest sketch by Jackie Pedro for the Viva la Verve! challenge (4th week of March).  I used it to create this Easter card.  I may even come back to this sketch for another theme :)

The image & sentiment are from Verve's "Everlasting Life".  I added a tiny bit of color to the flower with watercolor pencils.  The beautiful butterfly accent is part of the Bliss assortment from CTMH.  I added some fancy corner stitching using Sweet Leaf embroidery floss.  Nancy Brown turned me on to this eye catching technique.  You should check out her cards.  I also saw this beautiful ruched ribbon technique from another CTMH consultant, Connie MacFarlane.  I used Pear Pizazz seam binding from Stampin' Up.  Basically you stitch in a wide zig zag pattern spanning the entire width of the ribbon & then pull the thread to scrunch the ribbon.  I didn't measure the length that I used, but it was probably at least 2 times as long as the finished piece.  That's all from me today - thanks for popping in :)

Look Out World!

Hi there!  I have a fun card to share with you today, using one of my favorite Verve sets - To the Moon.  It is very fitting that I chose to case Julee's card over at CASE study.  I loved the big ribbon slide, the crisp white, & those fabulous polka dots.  Here's what I came up with.
I didn't have any big metal slides in my stash, but I did have some old chipboard ribbon slides from CTMH.  It was white to start with, I had a few options to dress it up a bit & decided to put a nice coating of liquid glass over it. It is wonderfully shiny in person & you would never know it was not metal.  The papers are from CTMH, too - the retired "Animal Cookies" collection.  I paper pieced little Emery & the kites, and added some hand stitching for the kite strings.  Oh, almost forgot - the layout for this card is from the 3rd week of March sketch for the Viva la Verve! challenges on SCS.  Maureen Plut came up with this versatile sketch.  Thanks for stopping by my blog today :)

Mojo Monday #183

Happy Monday!  It is time for another fabulous Mojo Monday sketch.  Here's the sketch & my card.

The images are from "Sensational Season" from Close to My Heart, and the papers are from the "Mayberry" collection.  Here are a couple close-ups of some different elements I added.  For the border under the ribbon, I cut a border using the Tim Holtz brackets die.  Scalloped circles were cut from another pattern paper, cut in half, and the sides were then folded into the center.  I lined up these folded circles next to one another & stitched in a zig-zag pattern.

On the bunny's apron, I added some hand stitching with Olive embroidery floss.  The dress & apron are paper pieced, and the rest of the image was colored with Copics.
Be sure to check out what the rest of the Mojo Makers have for you today.  Remember to link up your creation at the Mojo Monday blog.  Thanks for stopping by today :)

Oh Baby! - Heart 2 Heart Challenge

Good day :)  This week's challenge at Heart 2 Heart is anything baby related, & it is a timely one for me.  My little sister is expecting her first baby, a girl, & we just had her baby shower this past weekend.  It went very well, & she got lots of baby gear.  Here is the card I made for her.  Her nursery colors are green with a splash of pink :)
Here's a close-up of the focal element.  Stamp sets used are "Sweet Baby" and "Baby Steps".  I just had to add some safety pins from the retired Baby Pink My Accents.

Here's the inside.  Of course, I added a heartfelt note for the mommy & daddy-to-be :)

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Heart 2 Heart DT has for you today.  One of our March sponsors, Lori Brown, is also participating this week so be sure to leave her some love :)  Remember to link up your baby themed creation at the Heart 2 Heart blog.

Best Husband Ever

I usually struggle with masculine cards, but this one was fun & came together easily for once!  I used the colors from The Play Date Cafe #72.  I really took my inspiration from the photo, which to  me looked sort of masculine with orange & blue & neutrals plus just a dash of pink.  Now, that I look the "blue" I used is more of a blue/green though.  I hope the wonderful ladies at the Cafe forgive me :)  Here's my card.
The layout is the Viva la Verve! sketch for week 2 of March. Charmaine created this wonderful sketch. All the pieces for this card were distressed a bit & inked with Bamboo ink. I love the look of Bamboo ink on Colonial White cardstock. I also used a couple new background stamps from CTMH - "Universal Backgrounds" & "Two-Step Backgrounds". You can see the backgrounds in the two close-ups below - I love background stamps! The top right corner was a little bare for me, so I added a couple hearts from Verve's "Text Objects".  I think I could find a way to incorporate these two sweet hearts into just about every card I make - lol!  The sentiment is also from Verve - "Dad's Day". Thanks for stopping by my blog today :)

Mojo Monday #182

Happy Monday!  It is time for another fabulous Mojo Monday sketch.  This week's sketch is so versatile - dress it up or dress it down :)  Here is what I came up with.
The papers are from Close to My Heart.  The background sheet music paper is actually from "Mistletoe", a Christmas themed collection.  The pink paper is from "Mayberry", new in the Spring/Summer idea book.  The sentiment is from Verve's "One Person".  I thought it fit in well with the sheet music paper, not to mention it is a beautiful sentiment :)  The crochet doily is from Prima.  I actually cut the center portion out to save for another project since it would be covered up anyway.
Here's my glittered bird.  The bird is a chipboard shape from CTMH, which I covered with Liquid Glass, & piled on glass glitter.  It is so sparkly in real life.

Make sure to head on over to the rest of the Mojo Maker team to see what fabulous inspiration they have for you.  I'd love to see what you come up with for this sketch - remember to link it up at the Mojo Monday blog.  Thanks for stopping by today :)

Heart 2 Heart - From Your Heart to Ours

The theme this week is a fun one at Heart 2 Heartshow us something you created for your home.  Tell us why you love it. This can be a new creation or something you already have made but it must include some Close to My Heart products.  I have a clock to show you :)
I bought the round wood clock face & clock mechanism from a big box craft store.  I painted the edges of the wood face with white acrylic paint.  The papers are Sophia & Olivia (the Pear polka dot scalloped circle).  This was pretty quick to make.  I did use Mod Podge to adhere & seal the papers.  All the embellishments were adhered with Liquid Glass.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the DT has to share with you.  I hope you are inspired to play along & link your creation up at Heart 2 Heart.  Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Dance, Sing, Live ...

Here is a quick card that I created using some Crate paper, CTMH cardstock, & a Verve sentiment.  Iwona Palamountain (aka Chupa) posted a new feature on her blog, Sketchbook Saturday.  It is just for fun, & since I am a sketch junkie I had to play along.  This is a great sketch, too!  Here's my card & the sketch.
Check out that soft, yummy flower.  CTMH has some new pink ribbon & you can cut it apart into individual flowers - very pretty!  You have another few hours to play along with this sketch, so if you like it get going :)  Of course you can use the sketch anytime you like, as well!  Thanks for popping in today.  Have a wonderful weekend!

CASEing Julee

I couldn't let this week go by without participating in CASE Study (#29).  The muse for March is the one & only Julee Tilman.  The inspiration card chosen for this week is one of my recent favorites of Julee's.  If you haven't checked out Julee's blog, Poetic Artistry, you are in for a treat :)  I was inspired by Julee's use of glass glitter, flower, & ink distressing.  I also pulled out the same Verve stamp set she used - Text Objects.  Here's my "inspired" creation.

The layout comes from this week's Card Patterns sketch, #105.  It's late so I am signing off.  Thanks for stopping by & have a great day :)
